Where donations can be made in honour of bus crash victims
Hundreds of friends, neighbours work colleagues and others touched by the deaths following last Friday’s bus crash at the Westboro Transitway station have stepped forward to help.
The death notice for Bruce Thomlinson urges friends and supporters to donate to a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for the 56-year-old’s wife, Elaine, and two sons, Braydon and Ryan. Two such fundraising pages exist, one titled “Support the family of Bruce Thomlinson” and the other “Bruce Thomlinson Memorial.” Combined, more than 300 people had contributed almost $19,000 by midday Wednesday, just over 40 per cent of the total goal of $45,000. Condolences, memories or donations, the notice advises, can be made at www.tubmanfuneralhomes.com. GoFundMe donations can be made at www.gofundme.com/bruce-thomlinson-memorial or www.gofundme.com/support-for-the-family-of-bruce-thomlinson.
The notice of Judy Booth’s death invites those wishing to make a memorial donation to consider giving to the North Lanark Highland Games, of which the 57-year-old Booth was past president. A former Almonte resident, mother of Karen and Holly Benvie and wife to Chesley Booth, she was also a member of the Ottawa Highlanders, and former member of the Sons of Scotland, Ottawa Police Services and RCMP pipe bands. Tributes to her can be left at www.crgamble.com. The North Lanark Highland Games can be contacted at almontehighlandgames.com.
There has yet been no published death notice for the third victim of the crash, 65-year-old Anja Van Beek.
